For many of Shakespeare’s most tragic characters, love represents not an ascent into heavenly bliss, but a descent into hellish despair. So it’s fitting that Brazilian director Renato Rocha will be staging his exploration of Shakespeare’s most painful and poignant moments deep in the Dorfman Hub space beneath the Roundhouse.

This unique underground space will be be transformed into a dreamlike underworld that draws on the rich cultural tapestry of Brazil and will be suffused with stunning digital projections.

Featuring scenes from Hamlet, Othello and Romeo and Juliet and performed in promenade by a cast of London teenagers, The Dark Side of Love is an intense and atmospheric experience. The audience are encouraged to lose themselves in the action, whilst the characters lose themselves in the most extreme of emotions as they search for the light of love glimmering through the darkness.

Cinetaxis is coming back this spring, in another secret location to be revealed soon...

Cinetaxis is an interactive collaboration between electronic music, science and live performance lead by digital visual art that creates a genuinely interdisciplinary installation piece.

The project is originally inspired by 'phototaxis' and moths attraction to light and by our fascination with insects and their behaviour. Early experiments with Cinetaxis were successfully staged at the Festival of Visual Theatre in Labin (Croatia) in August 2007, in a disused textile factory in East London in November 2007, and at the Live Performers Meeting 2008 in Rome in May 2008.

In Spring 2009 we continued our process and received a research and development grant from Arts Council England (London) to present 2 weekends of experiments into Cinetaxis at the Shunt Vaults in London. The result was an exciting dialogue and close integration between multiple artistic disciplines (contemporary performance, dance, music, new digital media and visual art). Live installations by performer/dancers, contemporary electronic music, movement and giant projections, created a dynamic, surreal and atmospheric world that enveloped the audience. This world exposes parallels between the human and insect form and behaviour, both beautiful and grotesque, fascinating and unsettling.

In January 2011 we started a new collaboration with an Entomology PHD Lecturer at Imperial College who invited us for a residency at Silwood Campus in Ascot. We are currently researching new possibilities of interaction between science and art and preparing a new show. More details coming up soon.

Join us for the spectacular finale of 12 Moves on Saturday 24 March 2012

During the afternoon, Worcester's newest iconic building the Hive hosts an afternoon of activities. The building will be buzzing with music, promenade performances and interactive installations.
As night falls, the grand Croft Road railway arches will transform into an giant installation, a one-off Son et Lumière with film, animation, light and original music composed by Mira Calix.
Hundreds of dancers have been working with choreographer Jennifer Irons and the12 Moves Dance Squad to perform and help us create this new mysterious dance fairytale. Many more who have taken part in county-wide roadshows, workshops and events will be in the audience. Be sure to look out for the dancers who spring up during the show or get to know the 12 moves yourself.

A multimedia adaptation of short monologues by Dario Fo and Franca Rame, devised by an ensemble of physical theatre performers. It lifts the veil on life stories about oppression and rebellion, change and metamorphosis, like a fragile butterfly, which transfo...rms in order to live, learning how to fly.

Staged to coincide with International Women’s Day on March 8th, Dot Dot Dot offers up tales of persecution, dissent, women's emancipation and human rights, staged with all the ironic, comedic flair synonymous with Physical Theatre, penned by two Nobel Prize winning 'jesters' - Dario Fo & Franca Rame.

Prosper is an ex-Rasta lost in London, trying to make sense of his dog-filled dreams. Madame Talatte remembers her island as a paradise, and Teddy Hibbert loves turtles but has trouble remembering people. Their stories collide in a dream turned nightmare of one Stu Barber.

In the late 1960s the Chagos islanders were evicted from their Indian Ocean home to make way for a US military base. Set against the actual events of their displacement and fight for justice, A Few Man Fridays, begins in the age of Cold War secrets and ends in the era of global warming.

Cardboard Citizens stages this compelling story in its trademark style where personal testimony and historical narrative meet to forge epic, mesmerising theatre, fusing music, video, and YouTube footage.

Moving, gripping and funny, A Few Man Fridays unearths an inglorious episode of British history, and explores the fantasies of the powerful, set against the dreams of the powerless.

This is Cardboard Citizens new play following 2009's Mincemeat, an Evening Standard Theatre Award winner.

Internationally renowned artist, architect and designer, Ron Arad has invited his favourite musicians and friends to create unique work for Curtain Call, his 360° interactive installation showing throughout in August at the Roundhouse.

As part of Curtain Call we created Waking Dream a 360° audio visual experience exploring fleeting moments of intensely surreal dreams, when lulled to sleep in transit.

Bringing together theatre, dance and digital animation, Waking Dream takes us on a disorienting journey through the subconscious of a sleeping commuter.
SDNA makes full use of Ron Arard's unique 360°installation with 3D animation and zoetrope like film sequences.

"Digital studio SDNA have engaged with the possibilities of a 360-degree screen as well as the original function of the Roundhouse as a railway engine shed, to create a work based around the surreal dream of a commuter who has nodded off in transit. Live 360° visuals to accompany two special events at the Roundhouse. Both concerts were performed within the unique setting of Ron Arad's Curtain Call. Steven Isserlis on Wed 17 Aug, played Bach’s Solo Suite No 3 and Britten’s Solo Suite No 3. London Contemporary Orchestra played on Tue 23 Aug, amongst others Adams' Shaker Loops and Arvo Pärt's Elegy to Britten.

SDNA have been appointed as Artistic Directors of this exciting three year project, part of the West Midlands' Culture Programme for London 2012, produced by Dancefest and supported by the Legacy Trust UK, Arts Council England West Midlands and Advantage West Midlands.

Engaged to bring a fresh digital perspective to this ambitious project, we have instigated guerilla projections, flash mobs and interactive installations. Bringing together an exciting creative team including composer Mira Calix (Warp) and choreographer Jen Irons(ironINC). The project continues until March 24^th 2012 when it will culminate in a live outdoor performance of dance, music and giant projections.

In September 2009 we won the tender to produce two permanent projected artworks as part of Sunderland's ambitious Cultural Masterplan.
Central to these digital artworks on St Thomas Street are recurring images of the inside of the White Rabbit's pocket watch. Imagery of brass cogs and the internal workings of clocks and watches runs throughout the work with images of local dancers from the Kathleen Davis Dance School, glass objects from the Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens, dancers from the Theatre Restaurant and images of welders from industrial ship crane builders Liebherr
Besides creating the digital content we designed and commissioned the building of the first two permanent outdoor projection systems in the UK. The projection systems work as a digital clock, triggered on the hour as part of the overall light and sound interactive installation.
The installation was launched in September 2010 and is part of a complete face lift of St. Thomas Street that includes a commission by sound artist Bill Fontana, street lighting form Kapok, street furniture from Charlie Davidson. The project was initially curated by Ian Banks from Atoll. Supported by Sunniside Partnership, One NorthEast, Sunderland City Council, Sunderland arc and HCA.

Incandescent was presented at the AV Festival, UK for the first time in February 2010. The
installation is an exploration of the incandescent light bulb, from its birth 130 years ago to its impending extinction. This interactive audio-visual sculpture made with 100 light bulbs was installed in the Pilgrim Pub in Sunderland, once part of the Athenaeum. In this building in 1846, Joseph Swan attended a lecture by physicist W Richardson that inspired him to invent the light bulb. Supported by Sunniside Partnership, One NorthEast, Sunderland City Council, Sunderland arc and HCA.

97 Hz is a research into interdisciplinary practice that explores the relationship between video, sound, theatre and new technologies.

An audio visual experiment that attempts to express connections between the performer and his subconscious while dissolving the lines between artistic disciplines.

The project was developed in July 2010 as a co-production between SDNA and Ticonzero.
